Hi, everyone!
June has been nothing special so far you’re three days in, what do you expect?? But I’m really looking forward to the end of the school year and sweet sweet liberation but also taking care of ourselves and others because there’s still a pandemic going on.
Anyways, because June is Pride Month I decided I’ll read mostly if not exclusively books with LGBT+ main characters. I’ll also try to read more books by POC authors. I’m not making a set TBR because I suck at following those, but these are my intentions for this month.
WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a Word of Worlds. It consists of answering three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Let’s get into it!
Red, White and Royal Blue – Casey McQuiston
I’ve been really bad at listening to audiobooks recently. I can’t seem to find activities that I can do while also paying attention to a book. Yes, I can do it while editing posts, but I lose my focus. And I don’t really have the time or the wish to sit down, play a game and listen to my audiobook. I don’t know what’s going on.
Anyways, I’m 70% into Red, White and Royal Blue and I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s a funny and charming story, with some really sweet main characters. I think I saw somewhere that it gets really heavy by the end and some people cried. I haven’t got to that part yet so I don’t know. Right now, I’m just enjoying the humor.
Simon Versus The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
This is a reread for me. I think it’s only fitting to read this book now since it is the first ever book I’ve read with a LGBT+ main character and that dealt with themes of sexuality and coming out and fear of homophobia. And it’s just a really sweet and fluffy read and I feel it’s nice for the beginning of summer.
Since I posted a Wrap Up a few days ago, I’m not going to talk about the books mentioned there again. I haven’t finished any book since. If you want to read my thoughts on Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami and Taking Control of Anxiety by Bret A. Moore – you can check them out in my wrap up.
I have some things in mind.
For my next physical read, I think I’ll go with The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee. I’m trying to read all the books from my shelves with LGBT+ main characters and this is the only one I think I have left. That’s because I’ve read almost all the contemporaries I own and fantasy which is my most owned genre books don’t usually have LGBT+ main characters. Which needs to change. WE WANT DIVERSITY!!! (if you could recommend me some good fantasy books with LGBT+ characters, I would be really grateful)
As for an audiobook, I really want to read We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson. I’ve been meaning to read this for quite some time now. The concept sound incredible. This gay boy has been abducted by aliens and they tell him they’re gonna end the world. But he can save it if he presses this button. But he’s been through a lot and is not really sure he wants to save it.
Tell me that doesn’t sound incredible!!
I love Red White and Royal Blue! I read it last summer and I really want to read it again! I hope you’re enjoying it!

Have you read any Alice Oseman as well? Her books are great for LGBT characters. I particularly love Heartstopper

I tried some Alice Oseman. I read and really loved I Was Born For This and I enjoyed Radio Silence even tho it didn’t work with me as well as it worked with others.
I really want to read Heartstopper at some point because I’ve seen it around and I think the art is so so cute!

Heartstopper is the cutest! I keep up to date reading them on tapas (which is a great way to get into them if you’re unsure) but I have all the books as well.
